Toll Adjustment of Harbour Crossings / Safety Risks for Marathon Runners

On Friday's Backchat, the tunnels. About 40 lawmakers including those from the pro-establishment parties may abstain or vote against the Government when it tables its non-binding motion on toll adjustment of the city's three harbour crossings at Legco next Wednesday.  Officials warn the Government would scrap the plan instead of making alternative proposals should it be vetoed. Is this payback for Carrie Lam? Should legislators support a measure that could reduce traffic, and pollution? Should we wait and see what happens when the Central by-pass is opened? Could you alter the difference between tunnels without doubling the price at the most popular crossing?  After 9.20, safety risks for marathon runners.

Increase in Property Prices / Death of Palestinian protesters in Gaza

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Jim Gould

On Thursday's Backchat we're talking about the relentless rise in property prices, and asking what could stop the upward trend, and when. The news that Sun Hung Kai Properties has paid a record $25.16 billion for a residential site at Kai Tak is expected to give further impetus to the market. Analyst say the price paid for the Kai Tak plot could mean the apartments there, when complete, selling for around $30,000 a square foot. Home prices have now been rising steadily for two years, and some real estate professionals are forecasting further increases of up to 15 per cent this year. And will a slowing property market in the mainland mean more investment cash heading here? What could, or should, be done about home prices? How concerned should we be? What about the millennials who can't afford to get on the property ladder? Leave a message, or email us at backchat@rthk.hk, or call us on 23388266. After 9.20, we turn our attention to the killing of dozens of Palestinian protesters in Gaza.
