MTR : Serious Delays on Tuesday / Kowloon West By-election

Backchat returns on Thursday, when we will talk about the unprecedented transport chaos on Tuesday. The serious delays on the main urban routes of the MTR - which lasted for more than six hours - affected millions of commuters, and created chaos inside and outside MTR stations. In fact we had to cancel the whole programme that day because of the breakdown - for the first time in 15 years! Sorry. Meanwhile Secretary for Transport and Housing Frank Chan says that it is necessary to tear up part of platform of Hung Hom station on the new Shatin-Central Link for further investigation. What's going wrong? Is there a fundamental problem with our only rail provider, or is it a run of bad luck? Are we too reliant on the MTR? What was your experience on Tuesday and what are the lessons?

Let us know your thoughts. You can leave a message on our Facebook page, Backchat on RTHK Radio 3, email us at backchat@rthk.hk. Or give us a call on 23388266.

After 9:20, we will take a look at the latest developments in the Kowloon West by-election.

Denial of FT Editor Victor Mallet’s Working Visa / Detention of Former Interpol President Meng Hongwei

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Ada Wong

On Tuesday's Backchat, more on FT Editor Victor Mallet's visa. Is the decision the latest in a string of attacks on the freedoms Hong Kong has enjoyed, as the newspaper claims? Is it retribution for crossing a line that everyone knew about? Is it a reasonable decision after Mr.Mallett provided a platform for a party that the authorities were about to ban?  Leave a message, or email us backchat@rthk.hk, or call  us on 23388266. After 9.20, the detention of former Interpol chief Meng Hongwei.
