On Tuesday's Backchat, nursing and healthcare staff shortage.150 medical staff joined a protest organised by the Association of HK Nursing Staff on Sunday calling for more manpower but not money to tackle staff shortages at public hospitals. They listed 14 problems including severe manpower shortage, overcrowded working environment, inadequate medical supplies, the ratio of nurse to patient exceeding 1:10 and a downplay of bed occupancy rate at public hospitals by the authorities. Is there are shortage and what are the consequences? Where can we find more doctors and nurses? Are non-Hong Kongers the answer - but that what about language problems? On Friday's Backchat, bus safety. The government-appointed Independent Review Committee on franchised bus services has released a report with 45 suggestions on making bus travel safer. They include better working conditions for drivers and shorter hours; tougher actions against passengers who argue with drivers; more seat belts, speed linmiters and other devices. Will they work, and are you happy about safety? What about the 7% fare rise too?
