Overnight in the markets oil prices have jumped higher once again and the 10-year Treasury bond yield is close to breaching the psychologically important barrier of 3%. Global metal prices have seen a relief selloff following their recent surge after the US Treasury department extended the time limit for US and non-US citizens and companies to wind up business with Russian aluminium producer Rusal by almost five months. Rusal has been shut off from the global market as a result of the sanctions disrupting supply chains around the world.
Hong Kong business sector lawmaker Jeffrey Lam is to propose the scrapping of mobile phone data roaming charges between the mainland and Hong Kong to boost ties across the "Greater Bay Area." This is one of several recommendations made following the visit by 32 legislators to five mainland cities across the region.
On the economic front, growth in the manufacturing sector in Japan picked up for the first time in 3 months. In the US manufacturing has hit a 43-month high but the rate of input price inflation was the fastest in almost 5 years, as the introduction of tariffs pushed raw material costs higher.

Andrew Freris, CEO of Ecognosis Advisory, forecasts that US Treasury bond yields will rise further but there is nothing significant about the 10-year breaching the 3% level. He also predicts a sell off in Hong Kong property and stocks as a result of rising local interest rates.
Jack Siu, Senior Asian Investment Strategist for Credit Suisse, says that volatility in global equities will last for a few weeks but the market will move higher in the next three to six months.

Bank of England is expected to keep interest rates on hold even though there is mounting pressure on rates rise as inflation in the UK hit a four-year high of 2.9 percent in May while wage grows at the slowest in two years.
