19/01/2019 - Spending habits

New research from MoneySmart finds that in Hong Kong, the old habit of living life to the fullest comes at the expense of smart money planning. When it comes to finances, Hong Kong people are taking the YOLO (You Only Live Once) approach, to the detriment of their long-term financial health. Peter Lewis was joined by Arthur Wan, General Manager of Money Smart to tell me more.

19/01/2019 - Overseas property

According to the Centa-City Leading Index, Hong Kong property prices have fallen around 7.5% from their peak in mid-2018. Despite that, property remains relatively unaffordable for most people, especially the young. Our listener Meghan is one of those struggling to get on the housing ladder and she’s contemplating buying a flat overseas instead of here in Hong Kong. She told Jimmy Lam about her plan. Jimmy also went to speak to Michael Sze, Chairman of Overseas Property Association for his advise to Meghan.

19/01/2019 - Investing in a bear market

Around the world, global stocks tumbled into a bear market in 2018. China was the world’s worst performing market last year and stocks in Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Japan and South Korea have joined in with the bear market. So how should we invest in these types of markets and does it require a change in investment approach compared to investing in a bull market. I went to see Rick Adkinson, Managing Director of Private Capital.
