Hong Kong University medical
students are conducting
two signature campaigns calling
for calorie labelling in fast
foods, along with a ban on
displays of tobacco products
at points of sale.
One group
of third-year medical students
has launched a signature
campaign calling for
food-energy labelling in fast
food outlets.
The
over-consumption of fast food
has long been linked to
obesity.
An organiser of the
campaign, Cynthia Hui, says
the current law on energy
labelling has failed to cover
a range of food products, in particular fast foods.
In a
second campaign, another group
of third-year medical students
is petitioning for a law
banning the display of tobacco
products at points of sale.
