    英國北部一間商店的地下室,近年發現了一批塵封多年的菲林,裏面的主角竟然是中國人!這些影片,相信是最早期拍攝的中國影像,紀錄了清末至新中國成立前,最動盪不安的幾十年。片段揭示了華人早年的社會生活面貌,對歷史研究具重大意義。這批影片現由英國電影協會(BFI)珍藏。


    英語版本由著名電影攝影師杜可風(Christopher Doyle)聲音導航。

    Mystery still surrounds the earliest film ever made in China – recently discovered in a shop basement in the north of England. Young men in mandarin attire laugh and joke as they glance at the camera, eyeballing the 21st century viewer from the time of the Qing Dynasty.  Since those gentlemen were recorded on celluloid, China has experienced nearly 120 years of momentous change.

    These first fleeting images are part of a unique collection of early films at the British Film Institute (BFI), covering every facet of Chinese life from the time of the Boxer Rebellion to the Communist victory in 1949.  

    With unique access to the BFI National Archive, this 2-part documentary shows films never seen before this outside the UK. The best of these extraordinary images are worked into a compelling narrative to reveal new insights into this period of tremendous change and turmoil in China. Voiced by renowned cinematographer Christopher Doyle, the films capture a pre-CCP China in vivid motion.

      近年,中資機構大舉收購瑞士大型企業。鐘錶製造、農業科技、航空物流等都先後成為中國收購的目標。中國老闆的入主確實拯救了部分瀕破產邊緣的瑞士公司,但同時卻帶來不一樣的管理文化,有當地工會活動就受到阻撓。另外,一些具戰略價值及擁有專業技術的瑞士企業,在中資高價收購後,卻沒好好管理,以至年年虧損,當地人不禁質疑這些中國老闆的注資是為了賺錢,還是另有目的?

      The relation between China and Switzerland has enhanced ever further, Chinese companies invest heavily in Switzerland. Some of the flagship of the Swiss economy, for instance: watchmaking, agrochemical and aviation logistics were bought at a high price. It is believed that rather than financial advantage, strategic interests and specialized skills were behind these acquisitions. Apart from this, these companies probably inspired by Chinese practices, is moving labor practices and partnerships toward repression. Is it a blessing or a curse for the Chinese takeovers?

      中國大媽陳雪艷曾經是保加利亞的成功商人,還認識當地政界名人和黑手黨老闆,有過一段輕狂的歲月。後來她移居希臘,開始反思要回饋社會;其後,她決定組織一個希臘華人志願團隊,以協助一批又一批湧到的難民,但卻受到當地華人及西方志願者的冷嘲熱諷。即便如此,陳雪艷在過程中仍有所得著,她與女兒的關係亦因而得到改善。

      Nearly two decades ago, Chinese immigrants came to Greece traveling along the similar route as the current refugees. Suzanne is one of them. Before moving to Greece, she had developed a successful business in Bulgaria and was friends with the then Bulgarian prime minister, mafia bosses and celebrities. When the refugee crisis arises, Suzanne decides to organize a Greek Chinese volunteer team to help as an act of redemption for her past. It is not easy - Suzanne struggles to persuade business-oriented Chinese bosses and companies to join and has to face the sarcastic attitude of Western volunteers. Suzanne’s dominant character also does not help. Against all odds, Suzanne gains a lot in the process, and so do her teammates.

      China’s monumental project, the Belt and Road Initiative, aims to create a vast economic zone across Eurasia. The Chinese government is building infrastructure and encouraging trade and investment along two routes on land and sea. The NHK programme, “China: The Great Dragon”, focuses on three key locations along a rail line being built between China and Europe: Kazakhstan, a vital source of energy and food for China; Poland, a new market for Chinese goods; and Germany, the EU leader China is courting with vigor. The journey helps to paint a picture of the rapidly-expanding economic sphere and westward march of China’s “new Silk Road.”
