      Dam-building projects along with other human behavior are contributing to the problem of desertification and a consequent increase in dust storms. This documentary, which was filmed partly in the Middle East, one of the regions worst affected by dust storms, reveals the causes and effects of this natural phenomenon. We will also see how vast clouds of Saharan dust blow across the Atlantic and affect Florida’s coral reefs; and how can scientists predict dust storms with a supercomputer, and help farmers to farm in dry areas.

      尼亞穆拉吉拉火山是世上最活躍的火山之一,同時也孕育了豐富的自然資源,包括山地大猩猩和礦物。不過,這亦引來武裝部隊匿藏在火山旁的樹林中,伺機奪取資源,甚至造成人命傷亡。為免受到襲擊,一班火山學家將乘坐直升機抵達火山口邊緣,以預測它下次爆發的時間。另一方面,山德‧托尼根醫生(Dr Xand van Tulleken)會去探訪當地的居民,看看他們如何與火山共處,而且善用它賜予的資源。

      Nyamuragira is one of the most active volcanoes on the planet. It also creates abundant natural resources, like mountain gorillas and minerals. But this attracts armed groups hiding in the forests on the slopes, scrambling for resources and leading to blood and death. To avoid being hit, the volcanologists have to travel on a helicopter to get to the crater rim, in order to predict when the volcano will next erupt. Meanwhile, Dr Xand van Tulleken meets the locals most affected by the volcano, to see how they cope with the constant threat and make the most out of it.

      In Africa lies Nyiragongo, one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, as it has erupted twice in the last 50 years, threatening the one million people who live nearby. Now, scientists are climbing up to the crater rim and then descend into the crater itself - to discover the warning signs that it is building towards a new eruption, so they can alert the people in advance. They will work with gas-sampling equipment, thermal cameras and infrasound to try and predict when the volcano will next erupt. Can the team complete the mission successfully and safely?
