    Election updates

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Danny Gittings

Good morning and welcome to Backchat. I'm Hugh Chiverton and your co-host today is Danny Gittings. Good morning Danny.

    On Friday's Backchat, election updates.

A number of prominent pro-democracy figures have received letters from electoral officers saying their Legco nominations have been invalidated.

The disqualified people include former Demosisto leader Joshua Wong, the Civic Party's Dennis Kwok, Kwok Ka-ki and Alvin Yeung, and Tsuen Wan district councillor Lester Shum.

It's also reported that the government is studying the possibility of postponing the election for a year, with little hope that the Covid-19 outbreak will be brought under control by September.

Exco member Ronny Tong said the SAR government could ask the NPC Standing Committee to rule on the length of the next term of Legco.

The latest development comes ahead of the end of the nomination period on Friday.

What are the legal and constitutional implications of the postponement, and the disqualifications?

Let us know your thoughts. You can leave a message on our Facebook page Backchat on RTHK Radio 3, email us at backchat@rthk.hk, or give us a call on 23388266.
