On Wednesday’s Backchat, Apple Daily; and Taiwan's representative in Hong Kong.

Apple Daily staff have been told the newspaper could cease operations this coming Saturday unless authorities release assets frozen as part of a national security

The media outlet has already stopped its English and online financial news.

Five executives were arrested on June 17 when 500 police officers raided the media group’s office. The CE insisted that the arrest had nothing to do with journalism and it cannot be described as suppression of press freedom.

She accused the United States of "beautifying" acts that endanger national security with its criticism of the Hong Kong authorities' crackdown on Apple Daily, saying the territory's national security law must be enforced.

What does it mean to the news industry and what impact will this bring? Will other outlets close? Do you think the closure is politically motivated? What did you think of Apple Daily?

From 9:15am-9:30am, we’ll be discussing Taiwan's representative in Hong Kong. Staff of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office returned to Taiwan last weekend after the office said they were asked to sign a statement to support the “One China” policy. What does the move mean?

On Friday's Backchat, June 12th 2019 protests anniversary; and solicitors to take silk?

This Saturday marks the second anniversary of the anti-extradition bill protests outside the Legislative Council on June 12, 2019. Police clashed with protesters in Admiralty and Central in the most violent scenes in decades.

This year, netizens have called on Hongkongers to gather around Causeway Bay, while the police are planning to deploy more than 1,000 officers across the city to handle potential gatherings.

What do you think of police’s handling of the protests back in 2019? What about protesters’ actions? What do you make of what happened in the second half of 2019. Two years on, how have things changed? Could it happen all over again?

From 9:15am-9:30am, we’re discussing solicitors. Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng is proposing a plan to allow legal officers in her department to attain the title of senior counsel. Why?
