75 years of China-Russia ties / Lebanon developments: on the verge of an all out war?

On Friday's Backchat, Global Focus talks about China-Russia relations, as the two countries mark 75 years of bilateral ties.

In a congratulatory message sent to his counterpart Vladimir Putin, President Xi Jinping said that China stood ready to deepen "practical cooperation" with Russia, which was among the first countries to recognise the PRC.
The bolstering of ties between the two neighbours comes amidst rising geopolitical tensions, with China expected to play a more prominent role in ceasefire talks surrounding the war in Ukraine.
The two leaders are expected to meet later this month at the BRICS Summit in the southwestern Russian city of Kazan.
In the second part of the programme, we talk about the latest developments in the Middle East, following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iran's launch of over 100 missiles at Israel.

Allegations of price-fixing in the real estate sector / 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28)

    主持人:Janice Wong and Danny Gittings

On Thursday's Backchat, we're talking about competition in real estate.

This comes as the Competition Commission is taking legal action against a local real estate brokerage firm and two of its real estate arms, accusing the companies of conspiring with competitors to set minimum rates by agreeing to charge at least two percent in commission. In response to regulators’ claims, the real estate agency giant said it would reserve the right challenge the legal action.
In a media statement, the Competition Commission highlighted that prices should be regulated by market forces, calling on firms knowingly engaging in price fixing cartels to submit a leniency application.
It is not the first time that a local company is suspected of price fixing, with several firms having been on regulators’ radar.
How common is price fixing in the property sector? What constitutes a breach of the ordinance? And how do we compare to other jurisdictions?
After 9:40, we discuss with local delegates ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai.
