China-UK rapprochement / Gaza ceasefire deal

On this week’s edition of Global Focus, we’re talking about the future of Sino-British relations. Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves at the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue in Beijing last week, as both sides signaled their willingness to re-engage after a six year hiatus, with trade and green energies high on the agenda.

However, uncertainty looms as to how much influence the new Trump administration would have on the future of economic ties between the UK and China. So how far is Keir Starmer’s government ready to go in boosting ties with China? And how much influence will the US have on the UK’s trade policy with the region?

In the second part of the programme, we're talking about the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, following month of negotiations brokered by Egypt and Qatar. What are the implications? Was US President-elect Donald Trump involved? And how fragile is this agreement?

    9:05am-9:30am: China-UK rapprochement

9:05am-9:30am: Peter Burnett, Chief Executive of the China-Britain Business Council

Wealth gap figures / Funding of dog shelters

    主持人:Danny Gittings and Mike Rowse

On Monday’s Backchat, we’re talking about Hong Kong’s wealth gap.

A new survey by Swiss investment bank UBS found that wealth inequality in Hong Kong's had dropped by 6% over the last 15 years, in contrast to Singapore which saw a 23% increase.
Analysts say this may reflect the fall in local property prices as well as the emigration of wealthy Hong Kongers, in some cases to Singapore.
But while the wealth gap, which only measures inequality in assets, has fallen an earlier report from Oxfam found that the income gap continues to grow, with Hong Kong’s poorest now earning almost 60 times less than Hong Kong’s richest.
So how does Hong Kong compare to other parts of the world? We'll find out.
After 9:45, we talk about the fate of the city's dog shelters, with some running out of cash.
