GLOBAL FOCUS - Democrat vs Republican debate on Radio 3

On Friday's Global Focus, we talked about US politics, ahead of the Presidential elections in November.
Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump took to the stage for their first ever TV debate on Tuesday, two months after President Joe Biden dropped out of the White House race to endorse Vice-President Harris.
Despite a collected beginning, the debate quickly turned into a war of words as the two rivals laid out their deep divisions in matters ranging from gun control, abortion rights, healthcare, immigration and tax. Both candidates claimed the mantle of change, hoping to gain the hearts and minds of American voters who will be called to the ballot boxes in less than two months.
We were joined by James Lockett, Chair of Democrats Abroad (Hong Kong) and Alan Seigrist, Head of Republicans Overseas (Hong Kong) who debated live from our studio here in Hong Kong.

Blue collar workers' evolving expectations / Tree larvae infestations

    主持人:Andrew Work and Ada Wong

On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about blue collar workers' evolving expectations.

Citybus has just launched flexible contracts hoping to attract at least 100 new recruits, at a time when bus companies are struggling to hire new staff. Under the new terms, drivers will be allowed to take two days off after working three days in a row, with monthly salaries of up to HK$21,000 for drivers working 10 hours a day. Previously, bus captains were usually entitled to one day off a week.

Two years ago, the same operator launched half-day contracts in response to an increasing trend of younger people opting to take up two part-time jobs rather than a full-time one.

Is the service industry ready to implement more such arrangements? Will this have an impact on operating costs? We'll find out.

After 9:45, we learn more about a larvae outbreak affecting some of the city's trees.
