This week, we travel across time and space — with the help of virtual reality tech,  to the opening night of the very first impressionist exhibition in Paris, in 1874. We talk to a paper cut artist who needs nothing more than paper and a pair of scissors to create super intricate designs, as we celebrate the Year of the Snake. Plus, we hear how an artist is transforming a cavernous space beneath the M+ museum.

This week, we hear about Hong Kong Dance Company’s upcoming performance that’s based on a famous local comic legend - Storm Riders. We take a deep dive into this year’s Fringe Festival and speak to a father-and-daughter jazz organ group to talk about music, and also get advice on how to  encourage children to learn a new instrument. Plus, we look ahead to a special concert to celebrate the legacy of American-British violinist Yehudi Menuhin who is s considered one of the greatest of the 20th century.
We’d love to hear your suggestions for interesting places we can visit or people we can meet that's related to art and culture in Hong Kong. Let us know. Email us at CultureZine@rthk.hk

11/01/2025 - Meggy Cheng - Executive Director of Hong Kong Dance Company

Lets start with the latest production of the Hong Kong Dance Company, and that’s “Storm Clouds: An Epic Martial Arts Dance Drama”, which is based on local comic legend Storm Riders or Fung Wan in Chinese, that resonates deeply with the collective memories of many Hong Kong people. Danny Gittings and Tony Sabine spoke to Meggy Cheng, the executive director of Hong Hong Dance Company. She first explained what the production is about:

CultureZine’s Halim has been exploring the Fringe Festival that’s taking place this month and she spoke to the father and daughter jazz organ group - B3 Johnson and Sylvia. She first asked Johnson Ho - the dad, what B3 means:

11/01/2025 - James Cuddeford - Lead violinist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta

James Cuddeford is the concertmaster, or lead violinist, of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and at the age of 11, he had the chance to play solo to violin master Yehudi Menuhin in Australia, and later became his student. Now to celebrate the legacy of Menuhin , a special concert will take place. James spoke to Ben Che:
