Welcome to Morning Brew. Phil’s back with you today, and despite Morris Miselowski being away in the air somewhere, we still have the requisite Tuesday antipodean flavour. After 10.30 Jarrod Watt is with us for his weekly report from home. He has a couple a great Aussie tracks for you too. At 11.10 Dr. Merrin Pearse is back for this week’s eco bit. After 11.30 our second guest of the week from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, a brilliant annual event run by the guys at the Hong Kong Fringe Club. We meet comic Brennan Reece. Actually from the UK, he won the “English Comedian of the Year” title in 2015, and best newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2015. Morris will be back with us next week for more business futurism...and stuff.
Good morning. On Morning Brew today, commentator Steve Vines will be with us at 10.10. This week we have conclusive proof that Elton John was wrong. It doesn’t seem to be the hardest word. Far from it actually, but the people of Hong Kong don’t seem to be convinced in the slightest by this week’s spate of theatrical self flagellation. There is now a resounding chorus of, “Annnddd?”. Join Steve with your emails, and comments below. Today is World Refugee Day. Refugee status is a hugely grey area in Hong Kong, that even the experts sometimes struggle to explain. The message seems to be “come in but we don’t want you, and we’ll make that very clear to you frequently”. At 11.10 we meet Virginie Goethals who is the co founder of RUN, a NGO for refugees that provides rehabilitation through sport, with a special focus on women who are victims of torture and sexual violence. At 11.40 our vet Dr. David Gething returns. Following on from our chat yesterday with Janice Jensen about things we like to do but our dogs may not, we talk about dosing your furry friends with supplements. After 12, we’re fashionably off to Milan for this week's wine class with JC Viens. (9:30am-1pm, email firstname.lastname@example.org )
