Paul Haswell (AKA the Pop Fugitive) is plotting to make his Escape every Sunday morning between 9.30 and 1.
Join him every Sunday on the Sunday Escape to hear the best in music, with plenty of new records including tracks from his album of the week, as well as interviews with guests from all over the city and beyond. There’s also occasional live music in the studio plus all the details of upcoming music events in Hong Kong.
On top of all that is “Biscuit Review”, now a Sunday Escape institution, to complement the most eclectic mix of music on Radio 3.
Among the brand new music on this week’s Sunday Escape you’ll find new tracks from Bon Iver, Sampa The Great, Sofi Tukker, Madeon and Of Monsters and Men. The week also sees new albums from Blood Orange, Africa Express, Palace, Penelope Isles and Banks, one of which will almost certainly be Paul’s album of the week.
Of course there’ll be plenty of older music to back up the new releases, with a good chance of an 80s slant now that Paul has finished watching Stranger Things 3. Talking of which, there’ll be a look at the Stranger Things 3 videogame tie-in, as well as Cadence of Hyrule, the new Legend of Zelda rhythm game on the Nintendo Switch.
If that wasn’t enough, it’s Shark Awareness Day on Sunday too, so Paul will be joined in the studio from 12 by Andrea Richey of the Hong Kong Shark Foundation to talk about shark conservation and what we can do to help, as well as the importance of sharks to our eco-system.
On top of that there’ll be all the usual nonsense and biscuits including a new feature “When Collaborations Go Wrong”. Tune in from 9.30 to1 pm!
This week the Sunday Escape celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, which took place on 20 and 21 July 1969. To commemorate, Paul will be playing plenty of music both from the period and with a (sometimes tenuous) link to the historic event. On top of all that, there will of course be all of the best in new music, with new tracks from The Flaming Lips, Four Tet, Alec Benjamin, Rhye, Maven Grace and The Streets, among many others.
Paul will also be playing three songs from this week’s album of the week, and commemorating the 20th anniversary of the breakthrough album from Sigur Ros, “Ágætis Byrjun”, which is enjoying a special vinyl release to celebrate.
As if that wasn’t enough there’ll also be all the usual nonsense including the latest unfortunate musical collaboration and gastronomy corner. Tune in from 9.30 to 1pm!
It’s Father’s Day on Sunday, at the end of a tumultuous week, so the Sunday Escape will be doing its best to reflect that with Paul playing (possibly tenuous) dad-related records, which might be just Dire Straits but if you have any better suggestions then do message the show, as well as honouring some famous dads such as Darth Vader.
In addition to that Paul will of course be looking at all the week’s new music, with new releases from Bat For Lashes, Mattiel, The Raconteurs, Jordan Rakei and Bill Callahan, plus the release of Madonna’s latest album and indeed latest reinvention entitled “Madame X”. There’ll also be a run through of whatever else Paul has been listening to lately, as well as album of the week.
As if that wasn’t enough, Paul will also be looking at the developments coming out of E3 this week, and of course whatever biscuits happen to come his way. Tune in from 9.30am to 1pm!
