主持人:Paul Haswell

Paul Haswell (AKA the Pop Fugitive) is plotting to make his Escape every Sunday morning between 9.30 and 1.

Join him every Sunday on the Sunday Escape to hear the best in music, with plenty of new records including tracks from his album of the week, as well as interviews with guests from all over the city and beyond. There’s also occasional live music in the studio plus all the details of upcoming music events in Hong Kong.

On top of all that is “Biscuit Review”, now a Sunday Escape institution, to complement the most eclectic mix of music on Radio 3.

Sweet Soul Music

It’s a relatively quiet week for new music this week, but that hasn’t stopped Paul digging out the finest in brand new records to play on this week’s Sunday Escape, with tracks from The Avalanches, Purity Ring, Sparks and The Strokes, plus a new album from Lanterns On The Lake. This week’s album of the week is the third album from Algiers, a lovely mix of soul and rock.

Soul has inspired the rest of the show too, as Paul will be playing some new and classic soul track amongst all the new stuff, and there’ll also be a tribute to DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, who sadly passed away this week. Paul will also be taking a look at the latest reissue of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

On top of all that there’s all the usual nonsense too, including but not limited to biscuits and a track from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s 2010 concept album about Imelda Marcos which needless to say slipped under the radar... Tune in from 9.30 to 1pm this Sunday!

The Crown

It’s been a busy week in Hong Kong, but that hasn’t stopped Paul from finding all the finest in new music for your listening pleasure on this week’s Sunday Escape. There’s a lot of brand new music too, with new releases from Duck Sauce, Christine and the Queens, Aladean Kheroufi, The Secret Sisters and the first new pop song from Lady Gaga in ages. This week’s album of the week is the long-awaited new LP from Dan Snaith’s project Caribou – and it’s the first new album from Caribou since 2014.

Aside from that, Paul takes a look at a few of the events still going ahead in Hong Kong, and he’s been chatting to the ladies behind Mussolini’s Mistresses at their final rehearsal on the day before their premiere on 2 March. He’s also been talking to Jessamine Dyrus about her forthcoming poetry hip hop event.

In addition there’ll be a tribute to David Roback, the co-founder of Mazzy Star who sadly passed away this week, and of course there’ll be all the usual features, with a new extended play featuring an appearance by Stevie Wonder, biscuits, and who knows what else. Only one way to find out: tune in on Sunday from 9.30am to 1pm! Tune in from 9.30 to 1pm this Sunday!

Swooning, Crooning and Roddy Radiation

主持人:Paul Haswell

Today's Sunday Escape is a genre-defying show, taking in ska, rap, reggae, indie, soul, easy listening and who knows what else. At 10am Paul is joined in the studio by Sandra Leung and Michael Sharmon, two vocalists who are bringing their show “You By My Side” to Hong Kong on 31 August. The show is all about their years of friendship as performers, taking in tributes to classic easy listening tracks and performers such as Barry Manilow, Judy Garland and Roman Tam.

Then there’s a complete change of tone as Paul chats with Roddy “Radiation” Byers from The Specials, who wrote some of their most iconic songs and is in town as part of the Hong Kong International Reggae Ska Festival. Paul caught up with Roddy earlier in the week to talk about The Specials, ska, rockabilly, and Amy Winehouse. There’ll also be more highlights from the festival.

As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also all of the best in the week’s new music, with North Carolina rapper Rapsody’s new album as album of the week along with new tracks from First Aid Kid, Mura Masa, Girl Ray and more. There’s also the latest instalment of “Bryan Ferry Messes It Up”, biscuits and all the usual nonsense. Tune in from 9.30 to 1pm.
