Sunday Escape

主持人:Paul Haswell

Paul and Carolyn (AKA the Pop Fugitives) are plotting to make their Escape every Sunday morning between 9.30 and 1.

Join them on the Sunday Escape to hear the best in new music, including three tracks from their album of the week, along with a carefully curated selection of classics, plus interviews with guests from all over the city and beyond. There’s also occasional live music in the studio and all the details of upcoming music events in Hong Kong.

On top of all that is “Biscuit Review”, now a Sunday Escape institution, a feature perfectly designed to complement the most eclectic mix of music on Radio 3.

Weller I Never!

On this week’s Sunday Escape Paul and Carolyn take a look at this week’s best new releases, including new tracks from The Flaming Lips, Porridge Radio and Toots & The Maytals plus albums from Dream Wife, Paul Weller and Stu Larsen. There’s also a new extended play, where the Pop Fugitives play a song longer than 6 minutes that you wouldn’t expect to hear on the radio as well as all the best music that they’ve been listening to all week.
It seems it’s officially Summer, with junk trips and hot weather aplenty, so Paul and Carolyn will talk about what to do in a Summer in Hong Kong when you can’t necessarily jet off to an exotic destination (which is a lot). Plus Paul talks about what the weather can do to a record collection. There’s also all the usual nonsense too, with the finest biscuit coverage you can find on a Sunday morning in Hong Kong.
Tune in on Sunday from 9.30 to 1pm!

A Fistful Of Biscuits

On this week’s Sunday Escape there’s another look at the finest new music of the week, with brand new albums from NZCA Lines and The Streets, plus new singles from Rayes, Gerard Way and Fat Trout Trailer Park, which joins the list of interesting band names from this year. Paul and Carolyn will also be playing everything they’ve been listening to this week for your musical delectation.

This includes music from legendary composer Ennio Morricone, who sadly passed away this week, along with legendary country fiddler Charlie Daniels. There’s also a new Extended Play and another Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz, which Paul has promised will be "very, very easy" this week.

On top of all that there’ll be all the usual nonsense, in-depth conversation on meaningless topics, a consideration of the finest non-Morricone soundtracks of all time, and of course biscuits which are Ringo Starr themed to celebrate his 80th birthday. Tune in on Sunday from 9.30am to 1pm!

Hi, How Are You

主持人:Paul Haswell

On this week’s Sunday Escape, Paul celebrates the release of an astonishing number of eagerly awaited albums, in particular The Return from rapper Sampa The Great, which is album of the week, as well as new albums from Metronomy, Alex Cameron, Charli XCX, The Lumineers, Pixies, (Sandy) Alex G and more! There’s also all the best other newly released songs from the week, with highlights from Wrabel, Green Day, The Knocks, FKA Twigs, Bruno Major and The Heavy. If there’s enough time, Paul will play some of the older stuff that’s been hitting the turntable at Pop Fugitive HQ.

There’s also some sad news however, as songwriter and artist Daniel Johnston passed away this week. Paul will play a few tracks from him and those influenced by him, and look at the incredible influence he had on independent music.

On top of all that there’s a look at a seven-inch box set from Slade, another cover version from Bryan Ferry that nobody wanted, and of course biscuits (which actually look decent this week). Tune in from 9.30am to 1pm!
