Paul and Carolyn (AKA the Pop Fugitives) are plotting to make their Escape every Sunday morning between 9 and 1.
Join them on the Sunday Escape to hear the best in new music, including three tracks from their album of the week, along with a carefully curated selection of classics, plus interviews with guests from all over the city and beyond. There’s also occasional live music in the studio and all the details of upcoming music events in Hong Kong.
On top of all that is “Biscuit Review”, now a Sunday Escape institution, a feature perfectly designed to complement the most eclectic mix of music on Radio 3.
On this week’s Sunday Escape Paul and Carolyn play all the finest in new music releases, including tracks from Arlo Parks, Claud, Arab Strap and Joel Culpepper plus a look at new albums from Smashing Pumpkins, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Miley Cyrus’ homage to the 80s. There’s also the best older stuff that’s been spinning at Pop Fugitive HQ along with a new album of the week and another Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz.
Friday was Record Store Day, again, so there’ll be a look at the releases coming out of that and whether the law of diminishing returns has well and truly begun to apply given it was the third Record Store Day of 2020. There’ll also be a brief discussion of the hottest gifts for this year’s festive season, purely to help Paul and Carolyn get some ideas, plus a look at the new Playstation 5 console.
On top of all that there’s all the usual nonsense too, including of course biscuits! Tune in live on Sunday from 9am to 1pm.
On this week’s Sunday Escape Paul and Carolyn return to play some of the finest music out this week, along with all the best in older stuff too. That means brand new tracks from Do Nothing, The Weather Station and Laurel plus albums from Caro, Logic and Yungblud as well as a live album from Arctic Monkeys. There’ll be an album of the week plus a new extended play.
Musicians are beginning to take a stand against streaming companies and the share of royalties they receive for plays of their tracks. Paul and Carolyn take a look at the impact streaming has on music and the way we listen to music, as well as ways to support your favourite artists, particularly after the catastrophic impact the year has had on live music.
On top of all that there’s all the usual nonsense too, including a new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz (with an emphasis on the mystery) and of course biscuits! Tune in from 9am to 1pm on RTHK Radio 3.

Paul and Carolyn return for another run through the very best in music new and old this week with brand new records from Teenage Fanclub, Loyle Carner, Haim and Billie Eilish along with albums from Lambchop and Benee, plus some EPs and possibly an album of the week. There’s also a deluge of reissues, compilations and seasonal albums thanks to Christmas rolling into view, with plenty of them on vinyl as well.
At 11am the Pop Fugitives will be joined by the organisers of the 2022 Gay Games, which is taking place in Hong Kong. Dennis Philipse, one of the many brains behind Hong Kong’s winning bid, last visited the show way back in 2017, and this time he’s bringing more friends along to talk about how the preparations are going, the countdown to the opening ceremony and what impact the last year has had on the event. The Gay Games crew will be picking some music too, and likely will be made to review biscuits.
On top of that there’s all the usual features too, with Paul’s favourite song about dogs by a Welsh band (which hopefully isn’t a new feature), a new extended play, and plenty more besides. Tune in live on Sunday from 9am to 1pm!
