    Sunday Escape

    簡介

    GIST

    Presenters:Paul Haswell and Carolyn Wright

Paul and Carolyn (AKA the Pop Fugitives) are plotting to make their Escape every Sunday morning between 9 and 1.

Join them on the Sunday Escape to hear the best in new music, including three tracks from their album of the week, along with a carefully curated selection of classics, plus interviews with guests from all over the city and beyond. There’s also occasional live music in the studio and all the details of upcoming music events in Hong Kong.

On top of all that is “Biscuit Review”, now a Sunday Escape institution, a feature perfectly designed to complement the most eclectic mix of music on Radio 3.

First On At The Buffalo Bar

On this week’s Sunday Escape, Paul and Carolyn will be playing tracks from eagerly awaited new albums from Gossip, Elbow, Adrienne Lenker, Waxahatchie, and The Jesus And Mary Chain; all of which came out on Friday marking another great week for brand new music. One of these records will be album of the week, plus there are new singles from A Certain Ratio, BCOS RSNS, Sofie Royer, Bodega, and plenty more besides. There’ll also be tributes to Steve Harley and Cola Boyy, along with whatever else has been playing at Pop Fugitive HQ.
The week’s features include another track from a band which achieved popularity by featuring in a 1990s jeans commercial, plus a tale of bait and switch which led to the release of one of the fastest selling singles of all time. There’s also another Sunday Cover Supplement, a new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz, the usual chat, and hopefully some decent biscuits.

    Interplay

It’s an Easter Sunday Escape this week, meaning that as well as playing the best in new and independent music Paul and Carolyn will be trying to find some Easter songs to go with the new tracks from Marina Allen, Frank Turner, Eels, Fat White Family, Rose Hotel, John Cale, and Mary In The Junkyard. There’s also a collaboration between Blondshell and Bully, and although it’s a quieter week for new albums this week there'll be music from LPs by Chastity Belt and Ride. There’ll also be plenty of older tracks too.

With the Hong Kong Sevens just around the corner, you can hear Paul and Carolyn’s interview with grammy award nominated musician Aston Barrett Jr of The Wailers, talking about the band’s forthcoming shows at the Sevens and Hong Kong Observation Wheel as well as Aston’s appearance in the movie Bob Marley: One Love.

On top of all that the usual features return, with a Karen O cover of a Smashing Pumpkins song as part of the Sunday Cover Supplement, a rather tragic Sweeping The Nation, another Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz and naturally some Easter biscuits.

    The Last Rotation Of Earth

This week was a quieter one for brand new music, giving Paul and Carolyn a welcome opportunity to play some of their recent favourites, along with plenty of older stuff. That said, there are still new singles from Lana Del Rey, BC Camplight, Dog Race and Feist, as well as brand new albums from Black Honey, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Yves Tumor. As part of the week’s features there’ll be a song from a Scottish ban, and label owner which broke up in 2005 having deserved more fame (but has recently reformed), as well as the debut from a legendary glam rock band. All that plus loads of chat, a brand new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz and naturally more average biscuits.
