Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
This week, we're going to Hum and Strum with one of the best named bands we’ve ever featured; Doc Cook And His 14 Doctors Of Syncopation. Plus, there's Big Maybelle with a rock and roll original, Jack Jackson and his 'Very Good Friend The Milkman', and... a fun tune from the 1930s that ended up being quoted by The Beatles in the 60s.
This week, another in our transportation themed shows, as we take to the skies with Those Magnificent Men (and women!) In Their Flying Machines. We’re Flying Down To Rio with Fred Astaire, taking a Solo Flight with Benny Goodman, and Flying Home with Ella Fitzgerald. Colin's e travelling the world through 78s and early vinyl from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s.

This week on VCT, a recording of what was a very well known song back in 1929. Recorded at the small Queens Hall in London, it features some amazing bass sax. In the mighty big band dept, Clark Terry features in a tribute to Quincy Jones, from 1959. Up and coming, young vocalist, Paul Stone from the UK is singing the songs of yesteryear. And, we have some Cole Porter, and a rare, incredibly sizzling three song medley from Frank Trumbauer that will knock your socks off.
