One of the features this week comes from 1938. A special recording, in that it captures the moment when Artie Shaw successfully got Billy Holiday into the studio after a long time of asking, but there was a catch to the deal. Another king of swing features Helen Forrest who’s a bit bothered and bewildered, and from the swinging 1950s album Moonray, a fine performer who was just in Hong Kong, Sarah Hayes, who also says a quick hello to Colin.

The often forgotten vocalist Ann Richards is shooting high from her 1958 capitol album of the same name. Pioneering cornet master, Joseph Nathan Oliver, brings us a legendary blues recording originally brought to fame by Satchmo. Then, from 'King' Oliver to the 'king of soul', with our 50s pop tune of the day, brought to you by one of the most influential soul artists of all time.
