Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
This week, the VCT gramophone collection takes in the sophisticated Dinah Shore, the stone hearted Fontane Sisters, and the baby faced Savoy Orpheans, with another top seller for Louie Prima and Keely Smith, and The Dinning Sisters in their Sunday best buttons and bows.
We're looking ahead to Valentine’s Day this week, with romance and a VCT smile. The smiles are coming from Homer And Jethro, (and possibly from Colin and Steve!). For the smoochy stuff you can rely upon Nat King Cole, Kay Kyser, Al Bowlly and Dick Todd. It's a celebration of February 14th, from the 20s to the 50s.

Two long time fans of Hong Kong, and the show, drop by this week. Steve and Val Priest are visiting town and rocking up to the studios with a handful of top tunes and memory makers. A classy collection this week from Billie Holiday, Sinatra, Benny Goodman and more. And, a special treat with a vintage ‘live’ recording of Val’s top trumpeter dad performing The Sheik Of Araby.
