Cattle have been farmers’ working partners since ancient times. However, due to urbanisation, we no longer need cattle for farming, though they still live in rural areas. How can human and cattle coexist peacefully under the same sky?

There are cowherds staying with cattle every day, even in stormy days and rainy days, striving for a niche where cattle can breathe freely. There are volunteers who contribute their money as well as effort. They always cut grasses and give them to the cattle with the hope of avoiding cattle suffering from hunger. How can these people pass on their love of cattle?

Keep Crawling to Find a Home

A member of the public once found a broken feeding tank in a refuse chamber in a district of Hong Kong with a leopard gecko it. It was then sent it to an organisation which kept amphibians and reptiles. The staff and volunteers there found that the tail of the small animal was abnormally swollen. The vet’s diagnosis was that an operation was needed immediately …

Over the years, the staff and volunteers of this organisation have taken care of countless abandoned amphibians and reptiles, such as: the abandoned green iguanas in the parks, the African spurred tortoises confiscated from animal smugglers, and the abandoned pet snakes “released to the wild”.

The staff and volunteers want to take good care of the animals there, let them grow healthy, and eventually find new owners for them.

Raising Hedgehogs – a Lifelong Commitment

Hedgehogs have an independent character and are not easy to get close to. If you are willing to spend time with them, and go from strangers to good friends with them, you are in fact already their closest family members.

Zofe, a senior volunteer of Hong Kong Hedgehog Association, is a veterinary nurse who has a deep understanding of the lifespan of animals. She accepts abandoned pet hedgehogs, and provides them with adopters and medicine for the prevention of external parasites, hoping that every hedgehog can find a home with love. University student Kammy adopts quite a number of animals at home. She will temporarily take care of “chicken”, her cousin’s hedgehog, and be responsible for the daily care of it, such as feeding, bathing and nail cutting. How will the energetic and playful “chicken” live in Kammy’s home? Can it get along well with other small animals?
