地球有46億年歷史，如果要將人類放進畫面裡，把數字改成46年會較容易理解：智人四小時前抵達歐洲，工業革命則在這分鐘才開始。在這段時間裡，我們已經破壞了地球超過一半的樹林，並危及到四分之一的動植物種。情況史無前例般糟糕，我們對生態系統和生物多樣性的破壞程度之高，不僅對環境構成威脅，甚至威脅到人類自身的存活。為避免地球走向悲慘未來，人類必須坐言起行，保護大自然。

Planet Earth is 4.6 billion years old. To put humanity into perspective, if we reduce this figure to 46, we can say that Homo sapiens arrived in Europe 4 hours ago, and our industrial revolution began just this minute. In this time frame, we have destroyed more than 50% of earth’s forests, while putting at risk 25% of animal and plant species. These observations are unprecedented. The destruction of our ecosystems and our biodiversity has reached levels that threaten not only the environment, but the survival of our species. To avoid a tragic future on Earth, man must act now to protect nature.

人類一直想盡辦法減少體力勞動和重覆性工序，在科技未出現之前，通常都是靠剝削其他同伴來達到目的。找機械人幫手似乎是個可行方法，幾百年來，機械人技術令不少人深深著迷，就連希臘神話中的赫菲斯托斯也製造了機械工人幫忙鑄鐵。不過，人工智能技術的發展要到最近才漸見成熟，有望改變人類的未來。

Mankind has always looked for ways to reduce manual labor and repetitive tasks. To that end, and in the absence of technology, civilization exploited various me- thods, often by taking advantage of their fellow humans. Robots, as a potential solution, have long fascinated mankind, capturing our imagination for centuries. Even in Greek mythology, the god Hephaestus had « mechanical » servants.
