    How can food waste be combated at the highest level? David turns to Belgium and the cafeteria at the European Parliament. The daily leftovers there are weighed in order to gradually reduce the scope of the waste. Nevertheless, several kilos of food still end up in the garbage. David, together with gourmet chef Claude Pohlig, creates a delicious menu for the MEPs from the unsold meals from the previous day. Their waste cuisine is well received, and a debate on how to counteract rising food waste is sparked right at the table. Is this how awareness is raised on the political level? But do theoretical discourses really lead to tangible initiatives? David decides to delve into the issue on the regional level, in a place where all of the supermarkets have been prohibited from throwing away food. He meets Frédéric Daerden, the mayor of Herstal, who initiated this very progressive measure primarily to combat rising poverty in French-speaking Belgium. Afterwards, he invites residents and needy locals to join him in eating a nutritious breakfast at the main town square made with food rescued from a local supermarket.
