Health authorities have proposed an amendment of existing laws to give more rights to critically ill patients in deciding whether or not to stop receiving medical treatment.
Under the legislative proposals on advance directives and dying in place, medical professionals – including those outside of medical settings – would be required to respect patients' will to end medical treatment or not be resuscitated.
The prospective amendments would safeguard medical staff from prosecutions, provided they have acted in line with patients' wishes.
What do you make of these proposals? Shall we give critically ill patients the right to end their treatment? Or is our medical system duty bound to keep patients alive no matter what?
At 9:45am, we talk about Hong Kong hosting the National Games.
