Operation Santa Claus – 35 Years of Giving Spirit

     ***Please support Operation Santa Claus

Operation Santa Claus was jointly established by the South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong to connect the local community with worthwhile charities. Since 1988, OSC has brought joy, goodwill and raised HK$353 million to support 323 charitable projects.

Before every Christmas, Operation Santa Claus launches a public fundraising campaign to celebrate the season of caring, sharing and giving to those who may be less fortunate. Through the generosity of our donors and supporters, Operation Santa Claus selects and funds charitable projects that focus on children and youth, elderly, community, physical and mental disabilities, medical, and environment.

Please join us in supporting the Hong Kong community during this festive season by donating to Operation Santa Claus and share the holiday spirit!

Jointly organised by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Operation Santa Claus (OSC) continued to promote the spirit of helping and caring to benefit those in need in the city, raising more than HK$16.7 million in donations, and overcoming another year of challenges. The funds raised by this year’s OSC campaign will be shared amongst 15 beneficiaries across the city that serve more than 12,000 people and support disadvantaged communities, including charities serving the causes of children and youth, the community, the environment, medical, elderly, and those with physical and mental disabilities.

This year’s theme of ‘Sports and All’ featured a wide range of exciting fundraising activities. Over 60 corporate and school donors, and thousands more continued showing their generous support to the campaign. OSC celebrated the conclusion of this year’s campaign by announcing four awards to noteworthy corporations and schools for their fundraising efforts. They are:
    ● Top Corporate Fundraiser – Morgan Stanley
    ● Top School Fundraiser – DSC International School
    ● Most Creative Corporate Fundraiser – HKSH Medical Group
    ● Most Creative School Fundraiser – Shung Tak Catholic English College
RTHK Controller (Radio) Amy KWONG Sze-yin said, “Despite the challenges in 2022, we are thankful to have wrapped up another successful year and campaigns. With strong support from the community, we have made significant impact for those in need in Hong Kong.”
“This year is the 35th Anniversary of the OSC. We are so thankful to all our donors, both old and new, making a difference in the community. Our community is our mission at SCMP, and we will continue to serve Hong Kong everyday with future editions of OSC,” said Catherine SO, SCMP Chief Executive Officer.

This year’s campaign was supported by the ambassador Crisel CONSUNJI. “I love Hong Kong. It’s my second year being an OSC ambassador. Hong Kong has overcome a lot, and OSC has also survived a tough year. Grateful OSC has brought people from all walks of life together, sharing the values of love and care with the humanity shining through,” said CONSUNJI.

Since its inception in 1988, OSC has raised more than $369 million for various charities in Hong Kong. Video highlights from OSC’s beneficiaries and award-winning donors are available here: https://oschk.org.

[Community] The Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge

Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge is a community-driven temporary shelter for migrant domestic women (MDW) in crisis.  It is a registered charity in Hong Kong established in 1986.

We provide food, accommodation and other forms of assistance to these women who are deprived of the means to survive because they are not allowed to work while their legal cases are on-going.

If you fund Bethune House, you are helping reduce the vulnerabilities and marginalization of our migrant domestic workers who are an integral part of the HK society.  By helping us, we can continue to shelter, support and care for women in need.

    Project Summary

There is a dearth of services in Hong Kong for migrant domestic workers, especially those who are temporarily unemployed. This was very apparent during the COVID-19 fifth wave. This is where service providers such as Bethune House Migrant Women's Refuge come in. Bethune House provides shelter, food, and other necessities to migrant domestic workers in distress, some with babies. Unable to work, Bethune House supports them until they get back on their feet. Bethune House even sheltered COVID-19 positive migrant workers. Through OSC’s support, we will be able to continue and expand our shelter and medical provisions, case and welfare assistance, Mental Health and Wellness activities, Life and Work skills trainings.

    Beneficiaries

600 migrant domestic workers provided shelter, primarily of Filipino and Indonesian nationalities

300 isolated migrant domestic workers provided COVID-19 care packs
