Hong Kong’s Not Got Talents / Relocation of Job Training Centre

On Wednesday's Backchat, Hong Kong’s not got talents. Our city has dropped in the latest World Talent Ranking report that compares how well we foster and attract talent. Singapore is the highest-ranking Asian economy on the index, with Switzerland the overall winner. Earlier this year the Government released a list of 11 types of talent - from naval architect to game designers and waste treatment specialists - that we want to lure to Hong Kong. How is that going, what sort of talent do you think we lack, and is our underfunded education system holding us back?  The survey suggests that we are better at appealing to professionals overseas, and less good at making our own. Is that fair?

After 9.20, the relocation of the job training centre for disabled teenagers to make way for a civil service college in Kwun Tong.

Child Protection and Children’s Rights / Wifi, Personal Data and High Speed Rail

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Jim Gould

On Thursday's Backchat, we're talking about child protection and children's rights. A report by the Social Welfare Department indicates that child abuse is on the increase, particularly where very young children are involved. In the first six months of this year there were 554 newly reported cases of abuse, compared with 947 for the whole of 2017. Those figures, and several widely reported cases before the courts in the past few months have led to calls for stronger penalties and an overhaul of child protection laws. So how could child abuse be prevented, and how could children's rights be better safeguarded? Leave a message here, or email us at backchat@rthk.hk, or call us on 23388266. After 9.20: Wifi, personal data, and the new high speed rail network.
