LGBT in Hong Kong / HK - Asia's Second Most Expensive City for Expats

On Wednesday's Backchat, LGBT in HK. There have been mixed developments recently when it comes to LGBT rights. A survey in the summer suggested that more than half of people here support gay marriage, and the Government will for the first time recognise overseas same-sex partnerships when granting dependent visas. But a proposal by Hong Kong’s only openly gay lawmaker that the government study the idea of creating legal unions for homosexual couples has been shot down in Legco after a heated debate. As voters in Taiwan choose not to allow gay marriage, where do we stand? Is public opinion changing or not? Should any legal changes mirror a mainstream view - or seek to protect a minority?

After 9.20, why is Hong Kong so expensive for expats?

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Mike Rowse

On Monday's Backchat, a year of #MeToo. Twelve months after the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, and with the issue now at the centre of the US Supreme Court's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, what effect has the movement had? Many well known American names have gone down, but what about in Hong Kong? Do you think attitudes have changed for good, and are women simply more powerful than they were? Leave a message, or email us backchat@rthk.hk, or call us on 23388266. After 9.20, FT editor Victor Mallet is denied a working visa after FCC's hosting of Andy Chan Ho-tin.
