China-US tech race / Donald Trump's plan to "take over" Gaza

On Friday's edition of Global Focus, we’re talking about the innovation race between China and the US.

From the release of artificial intelligence app DeepSeek to award-winning Chinese scientists leaving US universities to take up roles in China, the past month has shown signs of deepening competition between the world’s two largest economies.
While some view these developments a sign of decoupling, others see it as beneficial to both sides, with tools such as open source seen as having a potential to strengthen collaboration between the two giants.
In the second part of the show, we discuss the future of Gaza, following US President Donald Trump’s proposals to take over the war-torn enclave. Should we take him seriously?

US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement / Greater Bay Airlines flights cancellation saga

    主持人:Janice Wong and Danny Gittings

On Thursday's Backchat, we talk about the implications of US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

For the second time in a decade, the world's top historic emitter of greenhouse gases will be outside of the global pact against climate change, joining Iran, Libya and Yemen as the only countries not taking part.
Whilst expected, the new administration's decision has drawn strong criticism both at home and abroad, with environmentalists betting on hopes that individual States and corporations would keep playing their part.
President Trump has repeatedly argued that the agreement was detrimental to the US economy, a claim refuted by some of his closest allies.
At 9:30, we discuss yet another Executive Order which will pave way for the US exit from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
And after 9:45, we speak to an aviation sector representative to comment on on the spate of cancellations affecting Greater Bay Airlines flights.

9:05am-9:50am: US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and WHO

9:05am-9:30am: Quentin Parker, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Director of the Laboratory for Space Research, The University of Hong Kong

9:25am-9:45am: Dr Judith Mackay, Senior Policy Advisor to the World Health Organisation and Director of the Asian Consultancy on Tobacco Control

9:30am-9:50am: Chong Chan Yau, Board Director of Climate Finance Asia

9:45am-10:00am: Greater Bay Airlines flights cancellation saga
