Establishment of an independent committee for Tai Po blaze / Iron rust found in lunar soil samples / Airbus A320 sowftware glitch / Will Wikipedia go extinct because of AI?

On Thursday's Backchat, we followed-up on the tragic blaze in Tai Po. Chief Executive John Lee earlier announced the establishment of an independent committee, led by a judge, to look into the cause of the Wang Fuk Court fire that has claimed at least 159 lives so far. We spoke to a lawmaker and former security minister on the role of this committee, and how it can help with the investigation.

We'll then turn our attention to space after Chinese scientists identified “iron rust” in lunar soil samples brought back by the Chang’e-6 mission last year. Experts say this may change the traditional understanding of the moon’s surface chemistry and offer new clues to better explain lunar magnetic anomalies.

After the break, we talked to an aviation expert after Airbus says it will inspect hundreds of A320 planes due to a "supplier quality issue" with metal panels.

To wrap it all up, a tech expert explained the challenges that Wikipedia faces in the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.

US tariffs on China / Lithium battery safety

    主持人:Tony Sabine and Rainbow Leung

On Tuesday’s Backchat, we discuss the Trump administration’s decision to impose tariffs on Chinese goods and the impending impact on Hong Kong.

The city’s stock market opened lower on the first trading day in the Year of the Snake after US President Donald Trump ordered levies of 10 percent on goods exported from China.
And whilst the measure didn’t come as a surprise, businesses are taking steps to protect themselves from the fallout by adjusting their shipping dates.
Some hope that Hong Kong will benefit from the trade upheaval, allowing the city to pivot closer to the mainland while finding new opportunities in untapped markets. So how will these new measures play out? We’ll find out.
After 9:45, we speak to an electrical engineer on the dangers of lithium, as South Korean investigators suspect that’s a portable charger might have been the cause of a fire on a Hong Kong-bound flight.

    9:05am-9:45am: US tariffs on China

9:05am-9:30am: Regina Ip, Chair of the Legco's Panel on Economic Development

9:05am-9:45am: Prof Ho Lok Sang, Senior Research Fellow at the Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute, Lingnan University

9:30am-9:45am: Mark Michelson, Chairman of the Asia CEO Forum at IMA Asia

    9:45am-10:00am: Lithium battery safety

9:45am-10:00am: Stanley Pong, Co-Founder of the Battery Recycling Centre

9:45am-10:00am: Edward Lo, Past Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers' Electrical Division
