Anti-smoking legislation / The fall of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol

    主持人:Jenny Lam and Rainbow Leung

On Monday’s Backchat, we discussed the government’s plans to prohibit the smoking and possession of e-cigarettes from the second quarter of next year, with the ultimate goal of putting in place a total ban on the products — including in private venues.

A bill expected to be submitted soon will also aim to ban the sale of shisha and flavored cigarettes within the coming two years. There are proposals as well to increase the penalty for the illicit importation of cigarettes. Meanwhile, plans are in the pipeline to expand no-smoking areas.
While anti-smoking advocates back these initiatives, some lawmakers have voiced concerns over the potential impact on F&B outlets.
After 9:45, we delved into the recent downfall of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from office by court ruling last week following his failed attempt to impose martial law. How's the country reacting to the court decision? What lies ahead for the former prosecutor-turned-politician?

    9:05am-9:45am: Anti-smoking legislations

9:05am-9:30am: Derek Cheung, Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, The University of Hong Kong

9:05am-9:45am: Mary Assunta, Head of Global Research and Advocacy at the Global Centre for Good Governance in Tobacco Control

9:05am-9:45am: Judith Mackay, Director of the Asian Consultancy on Tobacco Control and WHO Advisor

9:45am-10:00am: The fall of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol

9:45am-10:00am: Joung Hwang, Seoul-based lawyer and former Law Professor at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies
