Fuel prices surge / "Asian flush" study / Digital gap for the elderly / HK Express moving to Terminal 2

On this programme, we talked to a representative from the transport industry about fuel surcharges. Escalation in the Middle East conflict has propelled global crude oil prices to heights not seen in years. Will airlines and public transportation in Hong Kong be able to weather the storm, or will measures be needed to moderate prices?
We then learned more from a City University professor about the so-called "Asian glow", and how his team's new study may provide a possible explanation behind the condition that affects about 40 percent of the population in East Asia.
Following the break, we talked about the digital divide between the older and younger generation, after a recent survey on the SAR's digital literacy was conducted.
And we wrapped up the show with a conversation talking to the COO of HK Express about the upgrades at Hong Kong International Airport's Terminal 2.

Obesity figures / Broadcasting of court proceedings / Hong Kong Web3 Festival 2025

    主持人:Brian Wong and Rainbow Leung

On Wednesday's Backchat, we discussed obesity rates in the region.

A study from the mainland's National Health Commission has raised alarm bells, predicting that by 2030 — 65 percent of China’s population could be classified as overweight or even obese.

Experts estimate that treating overweight patients could take up 22 percent of the country's annual health budget, a sharp increase from the 8 percent recorded in 2022.

These statistics have prompted the nation’s top legislative body to intensify efforts to tackle obesity. So what distinguishes obesity from being overweight? Is dietary change a significant factor? And what about lifestyle changes and stress?

In the latter part of the programme, we learned more about the Judicary's pilot scheme which allows for some court proceedings to be broadcast live.

After 9:45, we talked about Web3 development in Hong Kong, and what’s being done to further boost the digital economy.

    9:05am-9:37am: Obesity figures

9:05am-9:30am: Dr Michele Yuen, Founding President of the Hong Kong Obesity Society
