The Qianhai economic zone in Shenzhen will see its size increase by about eight times, as part of a plan to foster closer business and technology ties with Hong Kong, and to help the development of the Greater Bay Area.
The project includes plans to attract universities from Hong Kong, Macau and overseas to set up branches there, and finance companies will be allowed to provide cross-border services. Business groups have welcomed the potential opportunities and benefits, but say the governments on the two sides need to work out a number of arrangements.
After 9:15am, we’re discussing the planned opening of Hong Kong International
Airport’s third runway, which is set for the second half of next year.
