On Wednesday's Backchat: the Macau gaming industry; and World Aids Day.

Macau casino shares trade here slumped on Monday after police arrested 11 people at the weekend over alleged money-laundering and illegal cross-border gambling.

Alvin Chau, head of the Macau casino junket operator Suncity Group, has been remanded in custody in the SAR after authorities in Wenzhou, in mainland China, issued an arrest warrant for him. Such operators act as go-betweens, bringing big-spending visitors to the casinos, extending them credit and collecting interest on their debts.

There’s also uncertainty surrounding the future of the casino sector, with gaming concessions due to expire in the middle of next year.

From 9:15am, we’re talking more about Aids and HIV, as December 1 is World Aids Day.

On Wednesday's Backchat: the Lantau Tomorrow Vision; and Australia prepares to reopen its borders.

Fifteen environmental groups have jointly criticized an environmental impact assessment report for the project, saying it underestimates the impact on marine life and carbon emissions.

In recent weeks much attention has been focused on another ambitious plan, the proposed Northern Metropolis announced in the Chief Executive’s policy address last month – and the administration says both mega projects will proceed in order to address the territory’s long-term housing needs and to advance infrastructure and economic development.

From 9:15am, we’re talking about Australia’s plan to reopen to foreign students and skilled workers.
