On Wednesday’s Backchat we’re talking about how to stem child abuse, amid a series of high-profile abuse cases involving both domestic incidents, and at childcare facilities.
Speaking about the latest case of alleged abuse at a care centre run by the Po Leung Kuk, Chief Executive John Lee said authorities are working to strengthen laws against abuse, while it may enlist the help of trustworthy independent bodies to conduct surprise inspections at childcare institutions.
Could more inspections help to ensure childcare staff don’t go over the line? Are care centres ade-quately staffed, and are they given enough training?
After 0915, we will look at why NASA has purposely crashed a spacecraft into an asteroid.

Future of Hong Kong’s northern wetlands; uptake of HPV vaccines

On Wednesday’s Backchat, we’re talking about the future of Hong Kong’s northern wetlands.
The new environment and ecology minister Tse Chin-wan says a study of the ecologically-sensitive areas in the northern new Territories should be finished by the end of the year, and authorities will take a fresh look at setting their boundaries.
This may result in some buffer areas being freed up for development, but the environment chief stressed that the main purpose is to enhance conservation efforts by better managing the area.
What do you think? Is there a win-win scenario for housing development and the environment? Is there a good way to free up usable land without harming the prized habitat for wildlife?
After 9:15, we will look at the difficulties healthcare professionals face in increasing the uptake of potentially life-saving HPV vaccines.
