On Monday's Backchat, we'll be looking at how the tourism industry is doing in both Hong Kong and Macau.
More visitors arrived in Hong Kong after the territory reopened its borders with the mainland on Jan-uary 8. But the numbers were only at 10 percent of pre-pandemic levels. And there were more residents heading out of Hong Kong than visitors coming in, with industry leaders saying many cross-border travellers were put off by having to show a negative PCR test result.
Meanwhile, tourism has been picking up again in Macau, especially during the Lunar New Year. With most Covid restrictions now lifted in the SAR, the number of visitors from Hong Kong and the mainland has increased significantly, which is expected to help revitalise the gambling enclave's economy.
After 9:15am, we're talking about illegal fireworks displays.
