Hong Kong's attractiveness to foreign talent / HKU's gum disease treatment project / Asian Games

On Monday's Backchat, we talk about Hong Kong's attractiveness to foreign expatriates and mainlanders.

According to the Immigration Department's latest figures, mainlanders account for 95% of applicants under the Top Talent Pass Scheme launched last December, a number some specialists attribute to the nation's increasing rate of university graduates.
And while the policy has borne fruit in attracting talented mainland counterparts, it seems to have fallen short of luring foreigners, with only 1,375 successful overseas applicants in contrast to 24,586 from the mainland.
From high-rents to regional competition, not mentioning opportunities in neighbouring Greater Bay Area cities -- Hong Kong is in a race to attract foreigners, with business chambers highlighting the need to get more talents from overseas.
Are foreign talents crucial to retaining Hong Kong's international stature? Do we need more targeted immigration policies? And how can the private sector play its part?
After 9:40, we will talk about an initiative by HKU offering free dental care to Hong Kong's underprivileged.
At 9:55, Jamie Clarke will update you on the Asian Games.

Expanded talent list / Football betting and match-fixing

    主持人:Janice Wong and Mike Rowse

On Thursday's Backchat we're talking about the government's decision to expand Hong Kong's talent list to lure more overseas professionals to work here.

Medical staff, construction workers, artificial intelligence specialists and those in the performing arts are among almost 40 new professions that have been added to Hong Kong's Talent Pass scheme.

The move will make it easier for employers to hire them from overseas.

But lawmakers have expressed mixed views about the government's decision.

So what do you think? What impact will it have on the local labour market? How useful will it be in tackling the labour shortage problem?

After 9:45am, we get reaction from a former Hong Kong footballer about the recent match-fixing scandal.

    9:00am-9:50am: Expanded talent list

9:00am-9:50am: Roy Ying, Co-chair of Advocacy and Policy Research Committee, Hong Kong Institute of Human Resources Management

9:00am-9:30am: Godfrey Leung, Executive Director, Hong Kong Construction Association

9:15am-9:30am: Sze Lai-shan, Deputy Director, The Society for Community Organisation

9:30am-9:50am: Lam Chun-sing, Lawmaker, The Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions
