AI Action Summit / Valentine's Day dating trends

On Friday's Backchat, Global Focus talks about the Paris AI Action Summit, which gathered dozens of political and tech heavyweights in the French capital earlier this week.

60 countries including China signed the final statement of the French hosted forum, agreeing to make artificial intelligence (AI) inclusive, open ethical and safe.
This comes as governments around the world began setting-up frameworks to regulate the technology. But the UK and the US refused to sign the statement, with Britain adding that issues of national security were not properly addressed. US Vice-President JD Vance justified his refusal to sign the agreement blaming “massive regulations” from the EU, which he says could “kill” AI.
After 9:45, we look into this year’s Valentine’s Day trends.

Rebound of conventions and exhibition events / Scrutiny of public housing estate tenants' assets

    主持人:Andrew Work and Jim Gould

On Wednesday's Backchat, we're talking about the rebound in the convention and exhibition business.

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau, has said he expects the sector's performance this year to match or even exceed that of pre-pandemic levels, with 150 conventions and 160 exhibitions scheduled for 2024.
From jewellery fairs to food expos, exhibitions will cover a wide area, and the hospitality sector is poised to benefit as well.
The turnaround follows three years Covid-related restrictions and comes after the government launched a $1.4 billion incentive scheme to subsidize exhibitors seeking to rent space.
After 9:45, we'll talk about the authorities' plans for closer examination of public housing tenants' assets, including their cars, to combat abuse of the system.

    9:05am-9:45am: Conventions and exhibitions

9:05-9:30: Prof. Andy Kwan, Director of the ACE Centre for Business and Economic Research

    9:05-9:30: Gary Ng, Economist, Natixis

9:30am-9:45am: Cathy Hsu, Chair Professor, School of Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University

9:45am-10:00am: Scrutiny of public estate tenants' assets
