Has Hong Kong got too much "red tape"? / Top stories of 2024

On Thursday’s Backchat, we’re talking about mainland residents’ perceptions of Hong Kong.

A survey of 800 young mainland students and workers found nearly a third believe the SAR has too much red tape across a wide range of issues. Those starting businesses reported having to go through lengthy processes when applying for licenses, while many faced hurdles transferring money back to the mainland.
The lack of smoking areas was also a common complaint, with some suggesting new tobacco control measures could harm Hong Kong’s attractiveness.
So how do our regulations governing daily lives differ from the mainland? Do we strike the right balance? Or are we being overprotective? Let us know your thoughts.
After 9:45, we speak to a media analyst, who will reveal his top 10 Hong Kong stories of 2024.
