Animal cruelty laws / Youth reading habits / Online shopping scam trends

In the first segment of Thursday's Backchat, we discussed ways to better combat animal abuse.

Lawmakers and animal welfare groups say there's a need to beef up penalties for animal cruelty for a stronger deterrent effect. They also said there are loopholes with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance.
Others, meanwhile, are calling on the authorities to review restrictions for pets in restaurants and expand their access to public transport to make Hong Kong a more pet-friendly city.
In the second part of the show, we explored young people's reading habits ahead of World Book Day.
And in the last part, we spoke to the police to learn more about the latest online shopping scam trends.

Sports in schools / Ethnic minority care teams

    主持人:Janice Wong and Danny Gittings

On Thursday's Backchat, as Hong Kong celebrates its Olympics success, we'll be asking what more can be done to promote sports development, especially in local schools?

The government is planning to begin asking primary schools to submit grades for their students’ performance in Physical Education classes, in a move which may encourage many to take the subject more seriously.
So how can we strengthen sports culture among Hong Kong's youth? And should we expect a flood of parents signing up their children for swimming and fencing classes in the wake of Hong Kong's Olympics success in these sports?
After 9:30, we learn more about the newly launched ethnic minority care teams.

    9:05am-9:30am: Sports in schools

9:05am-9:30am: Cheng King-leung, Chairman of the Elite Sports Committee

9:05am-9:30am: Mervyn Cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Education Policy Concern Organisation
