Salary Trends in the Greater Bay Area / Hurricane Milton and Extreme Weather

On Monday’s Backchat, we’re talking about salary trends in the Greater Bay Area . The latest pay trend survey by the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management shows that the average salary for Hong Kong employees increased by 3.2 percent this year, while workers in other parts of the GBA received an average salary increase of 4.8 percent. But overall, the average salary for the GBA area has dipped slightly compared to a year earlier.

On the outlook for 2025 - salary increases are planned by many companies in Hong Kong and other parts of the GBA, but a significant number of companies remain undecided. The survey organiser, says global economic uncertainty is a factor for companies’ to consider when forecasting pay adjustments, and a more cautious approach is expected for next year. So what do these findings show when it comes to workforce competitiveness? Is salary still the main factor when it comes to attracting talent?

After 9.30, we discuss Hurricane Milton in the United States, that intensified from a minimal hurricane to a massive Category 5 in less than ten hours. What made it so fierce and unusual? We’ll find out.

Pet economy / Mad honey poisoning cases

    主持人:Danny Gittings and Janice Wong

On Thursday's Backchat, we're talking about rising pet ownership as a new report reveals there are now more pets than infants and toddlers in China.

Multinational Goldman Sachs predicts the numbers will continue to grow, estimating there will be twice as many pets as under four-year-olds by the end of the decade.
Pet ownership is also on the rise in Hong Kong, with more companies allowing employees to bring their animals to work.
However, restrictions on public transport still linger, with local operators reluctant to let passengers bring animals, except guide dogs.
So how pet friendly is Hong Kong? And how expensive is it to be a "pawrent"?
After 9:45, we'll learn more about recent cases of suspected mad honey poisoning.

    9:05am-9:45am: Pet economy

9:05am-9:45am: Joshua Chu, Hong Kong-based lawyer and owner of rabbits Fluffy and McDuffie.

9:05am-9:45am: Melizza Anievas, Senior Vice President of Tokenis3, allowing employees to bring their pets to the office

9:05am-9:45am: Keina Chiu, Hong Kong-based journalist and owner of 20+ pets
