CE John Lee's Middle East visit / China's renewable energy development / AFTEC creativity project

On Tuesday’s Backchat, we looked back at Chief Executive John Lee’s trip to Qatar and Kuwait.

The SAR leader led a business delegation to the two Middle Eastern countries earlier this month. He described the visit as a successful and fruitful one.
A total of 59 Memoranda of Understanding and agreements were signed, including 35 in Qatar and 24 in Kuwait, spanning areas like finance, innovation and technology, commerce and legal support.
We talked to stakeholders and members of the delegation to find out what opportunities lie ahead for the SAR.
After the news, we took a closer look at China’s renewable energy development, after a think tank recently found that the country's carbon emissions fell in the first quarter of 2025 despite rising power demands.
And in the final part of the show, we were joined by a representative of the AFTEC Jockey Club Creative Futures Project for a preview of its Knowledge Exchange Festival that will take place from Friday to Sunday. The event is aimed at encouraging creativity and new ideas.

GLOBAL FOCUS - Social unrest in Britain / Cap on virtual banks

    主持人:Danny Gittings and Paul Zimmerman

On Friday's Backchat, Global Focus talks about the unrest in the UK.

Violent protests have erupted across Britain after false social media posts claimed a foreign asylum seeker was responsible for the fatal stabbing of three children. Far-right extremists attacked mosques and migrant accommodation, prompting both Hong Kong and a number of countries to issue travel warnings.

But Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed to bring an end to what he called "far right thuggery" and warned that the perpetrators will feel the "full force of the law".

So how powerful has social media been in fuelling disinformation? How challenging are these events for the new government? Are police and judicial authorities coping?

After 9:45, we look into the Monetary Authority's decision that Hong Kong already has enough virtual banks.

    9:05am-9:45am: Social unrest in Britain

9:05am-9:30am: Sandra Marco Colino, Associate Professor at the School of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
