Tourism and retail performance / LinkedIn privacy concerns

On Monday’s Backchat, we’re talking about the city’s economic performance during Golden Week.

Tourism and catering sector representatives said that business during the National Holiday holiday was better than expected, with most hotels reporting an occupancy rate of 90 percent. Hotel rates this time were on average 10 percent lower compared to last year, a strategy analysts say has paid off.
Meanwhile, restaurant revenue figures are set to exceed HK$300 million, up from last week’s forecast of HK$280 million.
Is the tourism sector on track to reaching pre-COVID levels?
After 9:45, we speak to a lawmaker on privacy concerns over LinkedIn’s policy updates which will allow the platform to collect user data to train artificial intelligence models.

Domestic helper wage increase / Hong Kong Creative Ageing Arts Festival

    主持人:Jim Gould and Car Ha

On Wednesday's Backchat, we're talking about the minimum wage for foreign domestic workers.

Last Friday the government announced that the minimum pay rate would rise by $120 to $4,990 a month, a 2.5 percent increase, and on par with year-on-year consumer price inflation.
It applies to all new contracts signed from last Saturday.
Migrant workers' unions have said the increase was not enough, and expressed disappointment at the authorities' decision to keep the food allowance unchanged.
Meanwhile, employers' representatives say a 2.5 percent increase is too high, pointing to last year's inflation figure of 1.7 percent.
After 9:45, we'll speak to two of the directors involved in the Hong Kong Creative Ageing Arts Festival.

    9:05am-9:45am: Domestic helper wage increase

9:05am-9:45am: Thomas Chan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Union of Employment Agencies

9:05am-9:30am: Sringatin, Spokesperson of the Asian Migrants’ Coordinating Body

9:30am-9:45am: Isla Wilson, Chief Programme Officer at Migrasia Global Solutions

9:45am-10:00am: Hong Kong Creative Ageing Arts Festival

We spoke to Alan Lyddiard, Theatre/Film Director; and Tamara McLorg, Choregrapher
