Taxi unions threatening strike / Rise in cervical cancer cases

On Monday’s Backchat, we talk about a potential strike by a cab drivers’ union.

The Hong Kong Tele-call Taxi Association warned that its members could go on strike for at least five days in March, unless authorities take action against illegal ride-hailing services.
This comes as the government is expected to unveil a framework which could lead to the legalisation of currently unregulated private hire services. And while some taxi drivers worry over the future of their trade, not all agree with resorting to industrial action.
After 9:45, we learn more about ways through which people can get screened for cervical cancer, as cases over the past decade jumped by more than 30 percent.

Donald Trump's threats to take over Greenland and Panama / Los Angeles fires

    主持人:Andrew Work and Philip Wong

On this edition of Global Focus, we talk about about US President-elect Donald Trump’s threats to gain control of Greenland and the Panama Canal. Mr Trump refused to rule out using economic or military force, calling them critical to American national security.

Both Panama and Greenland responded to the statements, stressing that their territorial integrity was non-negotiable. Earlier this week, the US President-elect came under fire for threatening economic force to turn Canada into America’s 51st state, angering Canadian officials who stated that they were not treating this as a joke.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that there “isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States”, to which soon to be US government adviser Elon Musk responded by saying: “Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so doesn’t matter what you say.”
Should these threats be taken seriously?
After 9:45, we talk about the ongoing Los Angeles fire, which claimed the lives of at least 5 people and reduced entire neighbourhoods to ashes.
