During the late Qing Dynasty, the Chinese government had a number of foreign nationals. Among them, Sir Robert Hart played an integral role in setting up the Imperial Maritime Custom Service and Postal Service, making him the most influential Westerner in China at the time. Annemarie Evans speaks with historian Mark O’Neill to learn more about the life of Sir Robert. The episode was first aired in 2017.
