In this week's episode, we will have the University of Oxford’s Professor Debin Ma back and analyse China’s road to unity over the years. He has compiled a large amount of data about political regimes and incidences of warfare, and argues that the mythical historical Chinese rests in China’s unique geography, ideology of a single unified ruler for all and the institution of direct administrative rule. He was invited by the University of Hong Kong to give a talk entitled “States and Wars : China’s Long March towards Unity and its Long-Term Consequences”.
