In this episode, Victor Bergeon travels to Florence, Italy, to uncover the legendary sport known as calcio storico—a 16th century tradition that Florence alone still preserves today. A brutal fusion of football, rugby, and wrestling, calcio storico is widely regarded as one of the most violent sports in the world.
There is, however, a major obstacle: to play in an official match, competitors must have been born in Florence. To work around this restriction, Victor must fight for a place in a special commemorative game—a one off, non league event held each year that allows foreign participants and serves as his only gateway into the arena.
This is an intense journey into a world defined by tradition, honor, and pride, as Victor introduces us to the culture of Italy’s last remaining gladiators.
