Surrounded by the sea on three sides and endowed with rich marine biodiversity, Hong Kong stands as a premier destination for diving enthusiasts.
Now in his eighties, David HSIUNG (HSIUNG Sir) has cultivated a lifelong passion for diving and underwater photography. At a time when the sport was not yet popular, he and his companions explored the local waters. In the 1960s, he documented the mysterious underwater realm using film cameras, forever captivated by the spectacular sight of vast schools of fish.
In 2014, Stan SHEA co-founded the “114˚E Hong Kong Reef Fish Survey” alongside fellow marine enthusiasts. Leading a team of volunteer scuba divers, they conducted systematic surveys of coral reef fish habitats. The project has so far recorded over 50 fish species previously undocumented in Hong Kong waters, significantly affirming the richness and importance of the local marine ecosystem.
Stan’s colleague, YIU Wai-hong, is currently compiling a decade of research data into a comprehensive field guide, aiming to foster greater public understanding and appreciation of Hong Kong’s underwater biodiversity. United by their profound dedication to the ocean, these divers invite audiences to explore the hidden wonders beneath Hong Kong’s waters.
